Introduction
Since the year 2003, we have seen a substantial increase in online flights. IVAO and Vatsim are among the largest and most well-known networks for online flying. Aruba Flight Simulator Club has chosen IVAO for its official network, and our technical staff can assist you with any questions you may have about it.
About International Virtual Aviation Organisation (IVAO)
The International Virtual Aviation Organisation, IVAO for short, was founded in 1998 to provide an online platform for flight simulation enthusiasts to enjoy their hobby in a simulated real-world environment, in the company of other people, flying, or providing Air Traffic Control services.
- Our community already has 250.000+ members from around the world
- We create and supply the software you need to connect to the network
- We provide comprehensive training allowing you to develop your skills
- All our services are free and always will be
Why start flying online?
This is one of the most common questions in the flight-simming world. Online flying will take you to a new level in this hobby. Mistakes you get away with offline, can and will most certainly be noticed while flying online. Don't let this intimidate you! You have to realize that all of us flying and controlling online had to go through the same steps as you may be about to. Whether you are flying and/or controlling for a hobby or pursuing a professional aviation career, flying and/or controlling online will help you gain knowledge and skills related to this hobby and aviation in general.
Many people have used this hobby to get their feet wet before studying to become a real pilot, and many of them still use it to stay sharp. Flying online, you will also have a chance to meet and befriend people from all over the world. On a typical peak hour, you can find between 600 and 900 IVAO members online.
You will also be able to speak directly to the controllers and/or pilots via voice software. In other words, it is a highly realistic simulation environment.
IVAO Membership
One of the best things about online flying via IVAO is that the membership is completely free. If you want to join IVAO just visit this link and follow the instructions. After your registration is complete, you will receive a VID number, your IVAN password, and a Website password via email. Your VID (Virtual ID) is used to identify you online and is also referred to as your IVAO member number. IVAN password is used in conjunction with your VID when logging on to fly or control online. Your Website password is used to access members' only sections on the IVAO website.
Software

ATC Client - Aurora
Aurora, your new ATC client, is the first client in many years developed in-house, it will allow us to seamlessly customize and adapt the software to offer you the best and most realistic ATC experience. New features will continue to be developed and released.
Basic Knowledge and Skills
Before you go online there are some basic things you need to know and be aware of:
- You should be able to fly, maneuver, and land your aircraft.
- Practice with default offline ATC instructions as this is a good basis for what you will experience online.
- You should be able to comply with ATC instructions, including maintaining a heading, altitude, etc.
- You are expected to be able to fill in a flight plan.
- Please note: NEVER connect on a runway, always start at a gate.
